Effective use of social media technologies can help to enhance and extend workplace training and learning efforts. With much of the current talk on social media and social learning occuring at the 50,000 foot level, training and learning professionals report that it offers few ideas for application to their work.
This session takes a 100-foot view of concrete, specific uses for using social media tools to enhance and extend existing training programs. While it primarily addresses use of Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Blogs, and Wikis (including some discussion of private, alternatives), the emphasis is on recognizing any new social media tool at their root purpose rather than at face value.
What will people gain from this program
• Choose appropriate tools to match desired outcomes
• Create and grow an online community
• Use social media tools to extend discussions, conduct formative evaluations, and bridge the spaces between formal learning events
Who Will Benefit? Trainers and instructional designers looking to learn more about using and to incorporate social media tools into their programs.
